Integrating Early Detection and Treatment of Child Wasting into Routine Primary Health Care Services

Integrating Early
Publisher: UNICEF

It has been 20 years since the community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) approach was shown to be cost-effective in treating child wasting. While the approach was first introduced in emergency contexts, countries began quickly integrating services for the treatment of child wasting within their national health systems following two major milestones: the 2007 United Nations Joint Statement recommending the CMAM approach and the World Health Organization (WHO) issuing treatment protocol guidelines for severe acute malnutrition in the same year.
