The Baseline Qualitative Study aims to highlight the experiences of marginalized 10-year-old Filipino children, focusing on those with disabilities, living in conflict zones, geographically isolated areas, or indigenous communities. The study also includes narratives from 15-19 year-old LGBTQ+ adolescents reflecting on their childhoods.
Key findings include:
- Challenges and Coping: Children face significant challenges in their family, school, and community environments, including bullying and lack of mental health support.
- Disabilities: Children with disabilities and their caregivers need urgent support, including access to therapy and caregiver training.
- Education: While most children are in school, the environment can be tough, especially for those with disabilities.
- Puberty and Reproductive Health: There is a need for better reproductive health education for children and their parents.
The study underscores the importance of targeted support and interventions to ensure no child is left behind, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and national initiatives.
