Republic Act No. 9710, also known as the Magna Carta of Women, is a comprehensive women’s human rights law. Enacted on August 14, 2009, it aims to eliminate discrimination against women by recognizing, protecting, fulfilling, and promoting their rights in all spheres of society. The law ensures the substantive equality of women and men by promoting women’s empowerment and providing equal opportunities in economic, political, social, and cultural life.

The Magna Carta of Women mandates the state to develop policies, programs, and mechanisms to address discrimination and inequality. It also affirms women’s rights as human rights and intensifies efforts to fulfill these rights, especially for marginalized women. By ensuring equal access to resources and opportunities, the law supports women’s active participation in nation-building and development.
